About

Tim Seaver founded Tios in 1986 with the belief that better ingredients make better food and a deep respect for Mexican cuisine. Born and raised on a farm in Ypsilanti, Tim has sourced locally since our inception. He brings an understanding of the processes that go in to raising animals and growing crops to his 40 years of experience in restaurants. Family has always been important to him and so it is important to Tios. The second generation of Seavers took over in 2009 with the move to Liberty.

Tios began as a hole in the wall (and proud of it!) Over the course of our 30+ years in business we have grown and evolved. In 2009 we relocated from Huron Street to our current location on Liberty. We added a bar and expanded our menu to include more modern interpretations of Mexican cuisine. We have always made everything from scratch and we still do. Some recipes remain the same (#4 forever) while others have grown and changed with our tastes.

Tios Mexican Cafe

All of the ingredients we use here at Tios reflect our commitment to quality, community and the environment: we source locally and sustainably. We stock our restaurant kitchen in much the same way that we stock our home kitchen: with daily deliveries of fresh ingredients that we select ourselves.  We also offer daily specials inspired by seasonal ingredients, based on the weather and how we are feeling. We are always on the lookout for new sources of ideas and inspiration, so when we travel we bring back our favorite flavors and culinary lessons learned.
